M. J. Johnston (or Matthew, if you please) is a San Francisco based photographer who has shot for McGraw Hill Publishing, the San Francisco Examiner as well as other publications in the U.S. and Asia. After working as a photo assistant on a National Geographic shoot, Matthew was inspired to focus on Natural Sciences photography. He often photographs flora and fauna in remote corners of the Bay Area, traveling with a portable studio strapped to his mountain bike. A former Bangkok resident, Matthew and his wife return frequently to Southeast Asia to shoot documentary works. When not photographing, Matthew teaches children in a private school, draws, studies languages and reads lots of history and science.
